Too lazy to make a real cooking post but I thought I’d share today’s lunch, a Hawaiian loco moco.
This version features a bowl of left over basmati rice (long grain, jasmine or sushi rice works too, as does couscous, quinoa or cauliflower rice), topped with a hamburger patty and canned Swiss Chalet beef gravy.

Add a fried sunny side up egg (white is set but the yolk is still runny). A little green onion for garnish.

Dig in.

Fast, easy and delicious.
PS: In Hawaii, a dinner plate also adds macaroni salad and coleslaw.
I love these sort of meals π
You can use couscous instead of rice or quinoa or cauliflower rice. I’ve made the dish before but the pictures I took at the time weren’t great so I redid them. π
I like the idea, especially making it with quinoa, veggie burgers and mushroom sauce.
That sounds like a tasty alternative.
I think this will be tomorrow’s dinner – thank you, dear friend!
What an interesting dish, particularly with the Swiss Chalet gravy. Iβve not thought about pairing it with anything but chicken but it sure sounds good.
It’s a beef gravy not their chicken one. π

I had a can in the pantry and wanted to use it up … made it easy. Though you CAN make your own pan gravy for the patties. Chef John has a relatively simple pantry version.
I didn’t even know they had a beef gravy!
I was recently in Hawaii, and went out of my way to have plate lunch! It wasn’t like this one, but man – I’m eager to try this. It looks simply delicious.
Did it have potato salad/macaroni salad and coleslaw on the plate too??
