Another use for the home made (or bought) cranberry sauce in your fridge or pantry.
Cranberry Sauce Oatmeal Bars … a switch up of Date Oatmeal Bars
There are a lot of recipes for these bars, on line. I found this one on the “Cook the Story” blog. Instead of a full tray (9″ x 13″), I made a half batch in my 8″ x 8″ glass pan. I made no other changes.
Wow, yummy.
They look great.
Thank you. You can use preserves or thick jam too.
Once I’ve lost this weight, I’m going to enjoy the occasional jam treat.
I was tempted to buy a package or two of dried dates when I went grocery shopping today and cook them up for a date puree version cause I really like date oatmeal turnovers and this would give me a similar taste, I think.
And then I bought a package of potato chips (crisps) … so much for trying to eat more sensibly. π
I love dates. They are great snack food. I like dried figs too.
Ooh, figs. Now those would be a tasty filling in these bars.
This brought back a million memories of trying to find recipes for leftover cranberry sauce (without the internet). The best one was for a raspberry bar reinvented as cranberry bars from a cookbook my brother gave to me when I was 12; the inscription read, βthis gift is really for me, in the long run!β
Your bars look delicious, a perfect treat to go with coffee.
So far, it’s my favourite too. π
A half batch would be perfect for just my husband and I. I’d love a piece with a cup of tea for an afternoon break.
For one or 2 people, a half batch (12 pieces) is perfect, I think. The bars are best just a bit warm. There’s texture and just a hint of sweet/tart. I eat them with a cup of coffee but tea would be great too.
I would make a batch of cranberry sauce just to make these bars. So very yummy!
Definitely a good idea. π
Perfect use of leftover cranberry sauce!
